Essay writing at postgraduate level isn’t just about what you know — it’s about how you structure, evidence, and communicate your learning. One of the key benefits of Barefoot Write Club is helping students feel more confident with the process of academic writing.
During the session, we revisit the foundations that make essays clearer and stronger: structured introductions, logical headings and subheadings, and purposeful conclusions. Students are encouraged to see structure as a support rather than a restriction — a framework that helps the examiner follow your thinking and learning journey.
Barefoot Write Club also tackles research and referencing head-on. Many students worry they haven’t read “enough” or that they should be consuming entire textbooks. Instead, the session promotes targeted, curious reading — dipping into chapters, exploring recent research, and relevant sources that genuinely inform your essay focus. Tools such as Google Scholar, journal articles, podcasts, professional bodies, and the University of Chester online library are discussed, alongside practical guidance on APA 7th Edition referencing.
Crucially, Write Club reminds students to use their Barefoot Essay Tutors. Our Tutors are experienced coaches who have completed the Post Graduate Certificate themselves and genuinely want to help. Taking advantage of the two rounds of written formative feedback – sooner rather than later – can make a significant difference.
As one participant reflected: “Your warm style and structured approach suited me perfectly. I am inspired to get started.”
With the right structure, support, and guidance, essay writing becomes less about pressure and more about making sense of your learning and coaching practice.
